The ISCC serves clients from a wide variety of fields including academic research, administration, non-profits, and industry. A majority of our work is with Indiana University researchers - grad students, post-docs, and faculty - from the physical scienses, social and behavioral sciences, and public health. But, anywhere there is data, we are eager to use statistical methods to solve problems.
We can provide any level of effort, from offering an hour of advice to acting as lead statistician on your team.
Tell us about your project!
Contact us for statistical support before you submit your next grant proposal, and we can help with study design, methods, analysis plan, and power/sample size calculations. You may only need a brief consultation to talk through your plans, or you may appreciate having an ISCC statistician to help write the methods section along side you. Strengthen your grant proposal by including professional statisticians from the ISCC in the budget to perform data analysis once the grant is in effect. (See our <FEES>.)
We offer support for:
- Grant proposals - methods, design, analysis plan, power & sample-size calculations
- IRB submissions
- Data collection tools including database development
- NSF Data Management Plan
- Data management and data monitoring
- Data analysis and interpretations
- Report or manuscript writing
Publications or Presentations
If you've done your experiment or data collection and are ready to analyze the data and present results, we can help in multiple ways. Many researchers are doing their own data analysis and meet with the ISCC to discuss analysis options, troubleshoot questions that arise, or seek assistance with how to interpret the results and write or present it. Other times, ISCC staff are recruited to engage in the analysis process more fully, using our expertise by performing the data management and analysis within our center. See our <<FEES>> for our hourly rates.
If you've already submitted your manuscript and received back comments from reviewers, we can also help you revise your analyses and write-up as appropriate.
We offer support for:
- Data management, diagnostics, and cleaning - Preparing data for analysis, checking invalid or missing data, outliers, re-codes, and transformations
- Analysis - Performing descriptive statistics, plots, analyses, and checking assumptions and diagnostics
- Interpretting - Answering research questions based on analysis results
- Reporting - Creating a clear write-up of your methods and results in APA (or journal-specific) style with text, tables & plots
Theses & Dissertations
Graduate students are encouraged to work with the ISCC at various points in their projects, from study design and proposal through data analysis and writing results. Students should take at least one graduate level statistics course along with any other relevant courses or training opportunities before beginning their own data analysis process. Consultants are available to meet with students four times each semester, to discuss the project, offer advice, and answer questions, while the student progresses through his or her analysis.
It is possible for graduate students to contract with the ISCC for assistance beyond the four free hours only with the explicit permission of their comittee chair. We are happy to help with research but careful not to infringe on the student's educational process. See our list of <<FEES>> for how the ISCC may (or may not) fit within your budget of time and money. Note that the process for a proper data analysis should take many hours, weeks, and months, which often makes funds for services particularly prohibitive for students paying out of pocket.
The statistical analysis for any project is often a very large process that will take a considerable number of hours, weeks, and months. Please allow ample time for analysis - both from yourself and your consultant.
The earlier you <<CONTACT US>> in the research process, the better we can help.
