This proposal provided financial support for the 2025 edition of the “Seminar on Stochastic Processes” (SSP) which was held at Indiana University, Bloomington this past spring, March 19-22 and organized under the leadership of the PI. The SSP is a major research conference series in the fields of probability and statistics. It has a long and distinguished history dating back to its inception in 1981 under the leadership of Kai Lai Chung, Erhan Cinlar and Ronald Getoor. Since that time this conference has been held annually for over 40 years at more than 20 different institutions in both the U.S. and Canada (including a previous edition at IUB in the Spring of 1993).
As in previous years, the 2025 edition of the SSP brought together an impressive group of accomplished and early-career researchers and graduate students. Our conference have five invited plenary speakers, namely:
- Adrian Gonzalez-Casanova (UC Berkeley & Arizona State University),
- Mariana Olvera-Cravioto (UNC Chapel Hill),
- Jinyoung Park (NYU-Courant),
- Ron Peled (Tel Aviv University & University of Maryland)
- Maria Vares (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro)
Vares gave the distinguished “Founders Lecture” started in 2011 in honor of the initial SSP organizers Chung, Cinlar and Getoor. Peled gave a three hour short course on Minimal Surfaces in Random Environment provided participants with a deep dive into a cutting edge area of current research. We also held a poster session proceeded by brief introductory talks, an open problem discussion session and a panel on career development. These elements ensured the participation of all attendees and provided these researchers an opportunity to interact, network and discuss recent advances in probability theory, stochastic processes, and their applications.
