Dan McDonald was promoted to associate professor, gave an invited talk on “Matrix sketching for alternating direction method of moments optimization" at a conference in Reston, VA, and received a 5-year NSF Career Award for “Calibrating Regularization for Enhanced Statistical Inference”.

The department relocated from Ballantine Hall to Informatics East and is now co-located in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering.
August
Julia Fukuyama joined IU as an assistant professor.
Spencer Hays joined IU as a clinical associate professor and director of the Indiana Statistical Consulting Center.

Andy Womack gave an invited talk on "A Bayesian, information-theoretic approach to optimal sampling” at the 33rd National Statistics Forum (FNE) and 13th Latin American Congress of Statistical Societies (CLATSE), University of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Statistics graduate students organized a student chapter of the American Statistical Association.
December
Michael Trosset gave an invited talk on “Distances and dissimilarities in mathematics and data science” at a Purdue University conference on “Mathematics, Data Science, and Industry”.
Julia Fukuyama and graduate student Xixi Hu each gave invited talks (Fukuyama on “Clustering for microbiome data with structural zeros, Hu on "Two-sample tests for unweighted random graphs generated from latent space models”) at the 11th International Conference of the ERCIM WG on Computational and Methodological Statistics, University of Pisa, Italy.
Overall
18 undergraduate majors earned a BS in Statistics; 9 graduate students earned an MS in Statistical Science; another 13 graduate students earned an MS in Applied Statistics.
The department hosted 14 colloquium speakers from other institutions.
The Indiana Statistical Consulting Center served approximately 200 clients.
