Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Opportunities
The Department of Statistics is hiring undergraduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) for STAT-S301: Applied Statistical Methods for Business. This course prepares business students for the Kelley School’s Integrative Core by developing their ability to analyze and interpret real-world data using statistical methods and Microsoft Excel.
About STAT-S301
STAT-S301 introduces students to methods for analyzing data arising in business. Topics include graphical and numerical summaries of data, probability models, estimation and hypothesis testing, and applications of linear regression. Students use Microsoft Excel extensively to perform analyses and communicate results.
Responsibilities
Undergraduate TAs for STAT-S301 are an essential part of the instructional team and typically:
- Grade in-class activities using Gradescope
- Hold weekly office hours to support students
- Attend class to assist with in-class activities and student questions
- Monitor and respond to course email and online questions
- Proctor two midterm exams and the final exam
Eligibility
- Must be an undergraduate student in good academic standing
- Must have completed STAT-S301 (or an equivalent applied statistics course) with a strong grade
- Comfortable using Microsoft Excel for data analysis
- Strong understanding of basic probability, regression, and hypothesis testing
- Reliable, organized, and able to communicate clearly with students and faculty
Compensation & Time Commitment
- Pay: $15 per hour
- Hours: Approximately 5–10 hours per week during the semester
